Children over one year of age should see a dentist at least once a year. Your doctor may recommend a visit earlier if there are concerns about your child's teeth. Your doctor can help you with information about dentists near you, or call member Services at 602-824-3700 or 1-800-747-7997 for help.

Remember your child's teeth are meant to last a lifetime. They should brush their teeth every day to remove the germs that cause tooth decay and gum problems. They should also floss their teeth. Healthy teeth start with brushing, but brushing does not get rid of all the germs that cause decay. Some germs will stay on the teeth unless your child flosses.

Fluoride is important for healthy teeth and gums. Fluoride is a mineral that helps to make teeth strong. Ask your child's dentist about fluoride treatments that can be given in the dental office.
