Well Child Visits
Well-Child Visits
Babies and children grow quickly. A well-child visit helps your child to stay healthy. This checkup also gives you a chance to ask your doctor questions. The early and periodic screening diagnosis and treatment (EPSDT) program is a program of health services to help your child grow up healthy. This service is available to all members under 21 years of age. Regular visits to the doctor and the dentist are to find problems early and start treatment right away.
Even if your child is not sick and seems to be healthy, it is important to see the doctor and dentist regularly. Regular doctor visits should start when your child is 2 to 4 days old and last until your child becomes 21 years of age. Any treatment for a physical or mental illness found during your child's visit will be covered if medically necessary. During the checkup your doctor may:
- Measure your child's weight and height
- Listen to your child's heart and lungs
- Look at your child's eyes, ears, mouth, and teeth
- Give your child needed immunizations (shots)
- Talk to you about preventing injuries and keeping your child healthy
- Talk to you about your concerns and about your child's health needs
